Project Pop Tab

When we stayed at the Ronald McDonald house, we learned of a great fundraising project for families. The South Florida locations collect the tabs from aluminum soda, beer, and water cans. Each year they generate between $8,000 and $10,000 from these tabs to help with their operating expenses. 1 million of these pop tabs provides a night's lodging for 25 families. I know that sounds like a lot, but it is easily achievable if communities get involved. We plan to introduce the idea to Madi's classrooms in the Fall. It is a fun way for kids to get involved in something charitable without asking for money.

Before the end of the school year, Julianna Debonis announced the idea to her classroom, and the next day another student brought in a gallon-sized ziplock bag full of pop tabs. The family had been collecting them for a year or so. We will make our first delivery next week. Not a single can gets by Madi these days without inspection!

Way to go Julianna! Great way to get the kids involved. Ami has been on the lookout also and saved a few.

I will be glad to save what I can. However, we gave up sodas and Dave drinks beer out of glass bottles most of the time. However, anytime I come across a tab, I will collect it for you.
